Panama City Beach Spring Break Crackdown

An ordinance strengthening controls over parking, lighting, crowd control and medical emergencies during special events will be in effect for college Spring Breakers visiting Panama City Beach in Florida. There will be more State Troopers on duty and definitely more garbage bins.

“We are ready. This is not our first rodeo.” said PCB police spokesman Maj. David Humphreys.

Roughly an additional 400 trash barrels will be ready for the mountains of garbage that is expected pile up.

The new ordinance was actually approved last year following what was almost a riot that ensued following MTV's Lil' Wayne Concert.

However, Panama City Beach Mayor Gayle Oberst staes that the ordinance actually applies to all "Special Events", at any time of year.

“We passed a new special events ordinance to make the guidelines clearer and more strict,” Oberst said. “It did stem from the Lil’ Wayne concert, where there was insufficient crowd control, but it applies to special events all year, and not just during Spring Break.”

The new regulations haven't scared off Spring Break revelers though..

Beach properties are apparently doing very well in the advanced bookings department and they're saying they'll do even better than last year. Officials are pleased however that MTV won't be in PCB for Spring Break 2010, whom they place most of the blame for last year's troubles.

“We know the kids are coming..” TDC Executive Director Dan Rowe said Friday.

MTV in Acapulco!

MTV will be in Acapulco Bay, Mexico with all the hottest hip-hop artists and Spring Break madness we've come to expect from them every break. The network will descend upon the Playa Suites Hotel from March 14th to March 18th and transform it into MTV Village. There's sure to be wild times, great contests, and plenty of free swag.

Keep a look out for MTV partner StudentCity.com! They're teaming up with MTV again this year to throw one hell of a kick-ass party. They're also giving away a free trip.

Spring Broke?

If serious financial troubles are standing in the way of your Spring Break Vacation you might want to turn to MTV and Casting Call. For some reason they want to know about it. http://www.mtvu.com/shows/casting-call/casting-call-spring-break-credit-card-debt/ Maybe they'll make you famous for five minutes? No thanks.. Unless they're actually planning to put me in the black again.

There'll be the Real World Challenges Crew in Acapulco as well and Casting Call is looking for a few outgoing college students to feature on MTV. If you've got the right stuff then you may end up being followed around by a camera all break. I don't think I'd like it.. They're also looking for students doing something different on break and they want to hear about it. http://www.mtvu.com/shows/spring-break/spring-break-2010-starts-now/

College Spring Break Travel Costs

Bing Travel's Spring Break Forecast released this year shows airfare costs for Spring Break travelers in 2009 were up 9%. The good news is hotel rates have decreased 15%. Although airfare is higher this year, the low lost of domestic hotel rates means a better value that can bring down the cost of the whole trip.

"Despite the recession, airlines are continuing to cut capacity, and spring airfares are creeping back up to 2008 levels," said Bing Travel Fareologist Joel Grus. "Thankfully, we are seeing a deep decrease in hotel prices across the board, which could reduce overall trip costs and offset higher airfares."

Here's some tips to save on airfare for Spring Break:

Don't travel in late March. Traveling early in March can save you as much as $65.00

Fly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Yep. You heard right. A seven night Wednesday to Wednesday or Tuesday to Tuesday trip is going to save you about $85 less than going on a Friday or Saturday.

Use Bing's Travel Price Predictor to get an edge on air travel cost and monitor current rates. This is a great tool that can lead to savings on airfare.

The report indicates that on average premium hotel rates for the popular domestic Spring Break destinations are down nearly 15% over 2009. The decrease in demand means that hotel owners have slashed prices to make up for occupancy. Look for this trend to continue into 2010.

If you're really looking to save some cash on a domestic Spring Break Vacation try for a destination out on west coast like Las Vegas or Maui. Weekend rates for airfare and hotel in Vegas is down 14% this year and for Maui costs have dropped an average of 21% compared to last year. Although airfare did rise for vacations to Florida it's still a winner for travel savings overall with hotel rates down 14% in 2009.

If you still have your mind set on travelling south of the border check out Puerto Vallarta. The dollar is at a very favorable point with the peso, in fact the best exchange rate in 16 years. When your money's worth more, it'll go further. In terms of airfare, a ticket to Puerto Vallarta really didn't increase much compared with other destinations.

Source: http://www.hotelsmag.com/article/447287-Spring_Break_Airfare_Up_Hotel_Rates_Down.php

Spring Break Disaster.. Thomas Sentenced to Prison and $230,134.76 in Restitution
Back in May of 2007 some Students from Hampton University VA were phoning parents and friends from Sunset Beach Resort in Jamaica trying to raise money for their unpaid lodging expenses. Elected college "Travel Agent" for the university’s Student Government Association, Chris Thomas, had not yet paid the bill from the over $200,000 he'd taken in from his fellow college Spring Breakers.

As it turns out Mr. Thomas had lost or spent most of the money while possibly trying to hedge some of his new found cash in an Etrade account. His plan, apart from the awesome $67,000 concert he had staged at the university, failed miserably to say the least.

Last October Thomas pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court and was sentenced last week to 33 months in prison and ordered to pay $230,134.76 in restitution.

It is the feeling of this writer that while Mr. Thomas' actions were self serving, fraudulent, and just plain naughty, he should not be jailed. After all, Mr. Thomas is, (or more-likely), was a member of the university's Student Government Association, some of whose members might say that his behavior was not unlike much more serious financial swindles often condoned by members of congress..

Of course Mr. Thomas should be made to repay the money.. and if life is truly is something of a popularity contest than Mr. Thomas' actions should in no way be considered a winning program. I'd venture to say he's out of the travel biz for now.

"I only wanted these students to enjoy their trip to Jamaica," Thomas said. "I am willing to do whatever it takes to make things right again."

At any rate and more to the point behind this story's publication, is a simple warning based on financial prudence. When booking for college Spring Break trips as group make sure you or your elected travel representative are dealing with a trusted Spring Break travel agent and get as much information as possible before and after you pay.

Good advice in Spring Break Travel ..and in representative government.

Source: www.dailypress.com/news/hampton/dp-local_husentence_0205feb05,0,5827253.story

Have you been scammed on break?
Why Use A College Spring Break Booking Company?

I see more and more groups taking their college spring break into their own hands and booking trips for themselves rather then using a college spring break booking comapny like STA or Inertia Tours. But are these companies realy just "middle men" jacking up the cost of your college spring break trip?

I think the answer to this really depends on what company you're talking about and where you're headed. A lot times it really does pay to have a college spring break booking company that knows the ropes helping you and your friends to truly enjoy your trip.

Many of the best Spring Break travel companies place a great value on Spring Break safety and they know where the good times are and will get you to the best parties. In other words, they've been planning awesome Spring Break trips for years and know what you might not about how to spend a college Spring Break vacation that you'll always remember for being a good time.

If you really think you can save money by going it alone, more power to you, but you'd better being willing to do some ground work and also make sure you know what you're doing while actually on break. There won't be anybody to help take care of problems you might run into but yourself.

CSB November FAM Trip

The staff of CSB treated a few lucky campus representatives to an all-inclusive weekend in goregeous Cabo San Lucas. We wanted to give them a sneak peek of what is expected to come spring break 2010! The weekend was jam packed with activities to do, as well as restaurants and bars to experience.

Before diving right into what our weekend was like, I just want to let everyone know that with every spring break trip purchased through CSB, your package includes: airfare, hotel accomodations, travel insurance, transportation between hotel and airport, spring break entertainment, trip wristband and a party passport. The trip wristband identifies you with our elite group in case of an emergency or just to cut lines! Our party passport is a spring break coupon book filled with $250 in free drinks as well as dicounts on activities and restaurants in Cabo included with every CSB package. For example, The NoWhere Bar coupons offer three free shots every night of the week while on spring break! Talk about a good start to the night. Here is the link to our website if that enticed you to come on spring break with us! http://cabospringbreak.com/?aid=Caitlyn

Ok so back to our weekend!

Here's a link to our latest Cabo pics with CaboSpringBreak dot-com: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cabo-Spring-Break/103072747423#/album.php?aid=124246&id=103072747423

Friday:

Our hotel of choice is Tesoro Los Cabos resort located on the marina in the center of Cabo San Lucas, which is where we all stayed for this three night weekend trip. Not only is this central location to both the bars and beach, CSB has an office/student business center in the Tesoro hotel where you can make dinner reservations, book a sunset cruise, ATV tour or add any other additional activities to make the most of your time in Cabo. The CSB office in Tesoro also provides its travelers with computers and phones so they can call the U.S. and access the Internet free of charge. .

After a group orientation upon arriving in Cabo, dinner plans had been made at The Brazilian Steak House. Dinner included an all you can eat array of Brazilian style food, with 11 different kinds of top quality meats barbecued right then and there....delicious! Once dinner was done, we began our "Nightlife tour," venturing off to The Nowhere Bar first, which is one of my favorite places to be. It sits directly on the marina tand its music and energy gets you ready for a long night ahead. Nowhere is one of the most recognized spots in Cabo.

Next stop El Squid Roe which is located a block behind NoWhere Bar . El Squid is a three floor restaurant by day, club by night establishment. Loud music, multiple stories, energetic decor and a spritely vibe all mix together to provide you with the ultimate clubbing experience. The Cabo Spring Break staff “owns” a VIP location here as it does with most venues in Cabo and treated us to a night never to forget. It was easily 2AM before we all ventured across the street and down the block back to our hotel. As our first night concluded, we had to prepare for Saturday's activities.

Saturday:

As the morning sun came up we ate breakfast at the Tesoro pool, knowing that today was going to be another beautiful day in Cabo. We toured Tesoro Los Cabos showing our representatives the different kinds of rooms spring breakers can have. Many with marina views and balconys, there are rooms with shared balconys to keep the party going all night, or rooms nestled away if you want to get away from all the action.

Next on our list of things to do was the WIld Canyon Zip Line Tour....which was incredible! We got to do three zip-lines over a canyon and hiked to each of them. Our last line was 300 feet high, 46 mph and a half a mile long! One of our representatives conquered his fear of heights on this journey as it was such an unforgettable experience!

After our zip line adventure we toured Casa Theodore & Casa W in Pedregal. Picture this...luxurious rooms, infinity pools, fire pits, sun beds, and even a nightclub...talk about beautiful villas! These villas are options for our "First Class" springbreak packages, which are a bit more expensive but very well worth it. Not only your own villa to spend a week in Cabo San Lucas but you can also add private drivers, personal chefs & bartenders...basically anything you want CSB can provide.

Our group then went to dinner at La Trattoria which is a fabulous Italian restaurant right near Nowhere Bar. After a plentiful amount of food and drink we went to dance the night away at Cabo Wabo, Pink Kitty, Mandala & Nowhere Bar. With each bar offering a different atmosphere and vibe everyone can have a great time in Cabo. As our Saturday came to a close, it was time to rest up for Sunday. There is never a dull moment in Cabo, especially if CSB is involved, thats for sure!

Sunday:

Our Sunday Funday in Cabo was at the one and only , world renowned Nikki Beach. Located on Medano Beach and apart of the ME Cabo hotel, Nikki provides a luxurious, relaxing vibe. CSB settled in our VIP Cabana, ordered some sushi and drinks; and played the day away in the sun. As the evening slowly approached it was time for Jungle Tours Sunset Cruise. The sunset cruise is one of the most popular extras to add on during spring break, and not to mention craziest. This two hour cruise takes you along the Sea of Cortez, Land' End, the famous El Arco rock formation, and the Pacific ocean providing you with open bar, dancing, and music the entire time!

The weekend was to say the least an unforgettable time, as is with every trip to Cabo San Lucas through CaboSpringBreak dot-com. We truly know how to entertain and cater to any group! Check out our website, tweet me @Caitlyn_CSB, or write to me on SpringBreakShare to let me know if you have any questions about Cabo Spring Break with CSB!

Besos!
